Whitney Houston was a gospel singer. At the age of 11, Whitney Houston began to follow in her mother’s footsteps and started performing as a soloist in the junior gospel choir at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, where she also learned to play the piano. Guinness World Records cited Whitney Houston as the most-awarded female act of all time.Whitney Houston’s awards include two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, and 22 American Music Awards, among a total of 415 career awards in her lifetime. In one of the videos I watched, Whitney Houston said: “It’s really wonderful to be here tonight. It is even more wonderful than usual because I got to take part in a salute to the music I love best. The music that gave my roots. The words of Gospel music glorify God.”
