“My Jesus, I Love Thee” – A Classic Hymn Featuring Mary Tom Speer Reid at Gaither Homecoming

“My Jesus, I Love Thee” is a timeless hymn that resonates deeply with many believers. Written by William Ralph Featherston in 1864, this beautiful piece captures the essence of devotion and love for Christ. Its simple yet profound lyrics express a heartfelt commitment to Jesus, making it a staple in Christian worship. Mary Tom Speer Reid, a notable figure in gospel music, has brought new life to this classic hymn. Her rendition is both moving and powerful. With her soulful voice and emotional delivery, she invites listeners into an intimate experience of faith.

The hymn’s message is universal. It speaks of gratitude for Christ’s sacrifice and the joy found in His love. Lines like “I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me” remind us of the grace that underpins our relationship with God.

The Gaither Vocal Band was founded in the early ’80s by renowned Christian music leader Bill Gaither. GVB became one of America’s leading southern gospel vocal groups. While Bill Gaither remained the only original member of the ensemble, many well-regarded CCM/gospel singers have passed through the band’s ranks, including Russ Taff, Guy Penrod, Wes Hampton, Michael English, Mark Lowry, and David Phelps. Today, the Gaither Vocal Band roster is comprised of five power-packed voices, including Bill Gaither, Wes Hampton, Adam Crabb, Todd Suttles and Reggie Smith.

My Jesus, I Love Thee

William R. Featherston

  1. My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine;
    For Thee all the follies of sin I resign;
    My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou;
    If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
  2. I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me,
    And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree;
    I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow;
    If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
  3. I’ll love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death,
    And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath;
    And say when the death dew lies cold on my brow,
    If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
  4. In mansions of glory and endless delight,
    I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright;
    I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow,
    If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

Knowing You’ll Be There

Song by Guy Penrod

The other day I passed the place
You always liked to go
And I picked up the phone because
I thought you’d want to know
But I forgot you weren’t there
I miss you all these days
That I’m reminded of your smile
And the funny things you’d say

I see you most at Christmas
You were like a little kid
You always loved a good surprise
And now I must admit
That I long more for heaven
Than I ever did before
You give me one more reason

And each day I want it more

Knowing we can spend a lifetime
Reminiscing on the past
Knowing I will see your face again
Where tender moment last
It makes me wanna go there

Knowing I won’t be alone
Knowing you’ll be there makes it easy to go home

You left a group of fishermen
Somehow you left me too
‘Though I’ve felt you many times
And know you saw me through
I’ve always long to feel your arms
And look into your eyes
And talk forever me and you
Somewhere in paradise

Knowing we can spend a lifetime
Reminiscing on the past
Knowing I will see your face again
Where tender moment last
It makes me wanna go there
Knowing I won’t be alone
Knowing you’ll be there makes it easy to go home
Just, knowing you’ll be there makes it easy to go home

The Greatest Gift of All lyrics

Dawn Is Slowly Breaking
Our Friends Have All Gone Home
You And I Are Waiting
For Christmas morn To Come
There’s A Present By The Tree
Stockings On The Wall
But Knowing You’re In Love With Me
Is The Greatest Gift Of All

The Fire Is Slowly Fading
Chill Is In The Air
All The Gifts Are Waiting
For Children Everywhere
Through The Window I Can See
Snow Begin To Fall
Knowing You’re In Love With Me
Is The Greatest Gift Of All

Just Before I Go To Sleep
I Hear A Church Bell Ring
Merry Christmas Everyone
Is The Song It Sings
So I Say A Silent Prayer
For Creatures Great And Small
Peace On Earth, Good Will To Men
Is The Greatest Gift Of All

Peace On Earth, Good Will To Men
Is The Greatest Gift Of All
