Songs of Solomon: A Book of Love, Romance, and Relationship

The world celebrates Valentines Day today!  When I think of a better place to obtain poems, phrases, or quotes that expresses love relationship between a husband and wife, the lyrics of  The Song of Solomon in the Bible is one of best places to read. The Songs of Solomon highlights the virtues of love between a husband and his wife and  is a concrete demonstration of  marriage in accordance with God’s design. A man and woman are to spend life together within the biblical meaning of marriage, that is loving each other physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

love birds

Love is not Forced. It comes Naturally.

Do not stir up nor awaken love until it pleases. (Songs of Solomon 2:7)

Love Cannot Be Bought

Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm.
For love is as strong as death, its jealousy as enduring as the grave.
Love flashes like fire, the brightest kind of flame.
Many waters cannot quench love,  nor can rivers drown it.
If a man tried to buy love with all his wealth, his offer would be utterly scorned.
(Songs of Solomon 8:6-7)

Love complements

You are all fair, my love,  And there is no spot in you. (Songs of Solomon 4:7)

How much better than wine is your love, And the scent of your perfumes, Than all spices! (Songs of Solomon 4:10)

A Loyal Love

I am my beloved’s, And my beloved is mine. (Songs of Solomon 6:3)

Songs of Solomon Practical Application for Today’s Age (Source: www.gotquestions.org)

Our world is confused about marriage. The prevalence of divorce and modern attempts to redefine marriage stand in glaring contrast to Solomon’s Song. Marriage, says the biblical poet, is to be celebrated, enjoyed, and revered. This book provides some practical guidelines for strengthening our marriages:
  1. Give your spouse the attention he or she needs. Take the time to truly know your spouse.
  2. Encouragement and praise, not criticism, are vital to a successful relationship.
  3. Enjoy each other. Plan some getaways. Be creative, even playful, with each other. Delight in God’s gift of married love.
  4. Do whatever is necessary to reassure your commitment to your spouse. Renew your vows; work through problems and do not consider divorce as a solution. God intends for you both to live in a deeply peaceful, secure love.

The God I Don’t Understand: Reflections on Tough Questions of Faith

If we are honest, we have to admit that there are many things we don’t understand about God. We do not have final answers to the deep problems of life, and those who say they do are probably living in some degree of delusion. There are areas of mystery in our Christian faith that lie beyond the keenest scholarship or even the most profound spiritual exercises. For many people, these problems raise so many questions and uncertainties that faith itself becomes a struggle, and the very person and character of God are called into question. Chris Wright encourages us to face up to the limitations of our understanding and to acknowledge the pain and grief they can often cause. But at the same time, he wants us to be able to say, like the psalmist in Psalm 73: ‘But that’s all right. God is ultimately in charge and I can trust him to put things right. Meanwhile, I will stay near to my God, make him my refuge, and go on telling of his deeds.” Amazon.com on The God I Don’t Understand: Reflections on Tough Questions of Faith‘

Christian Jokes: Which Way to Heaven?

This is a short true to life joke that happened in Billy Graham’s ministry. Prepare to laugh. Read on:

Reverend Billy Graham tells of a time early in his ministry when he arrived in a small town to preach a sermon. Wanting to mail a letter, he asked a young boy where the post office was. When the boy had told him, Dr. Graham thanked him and said, “If you’ll come to the Baptist Church this evening, you can hear me telling everyone how to get to heaven.”

The boy replied, “I don’t think I’ll be there… You don’t even know your way to the post office.”

Father Can You Hear Me

Father can you hear me
We need your love today
I know that you are listening
you hear men everyday
Father please hear us
and we will be OK
father we need you to heal families today

Father can you hear me
I’m calling on your name
Not Buddha nor Muhammad
but it’s Jesus we cry out loud
Father just forgive us
Hear us when we say
We’ll give ya, give ya, give you everything our lives and souls today

Father you know we need it
I’ve never seen so much pain
We have the faith for now
Your victory we will gain
father you know we mean it
there’s no more heart of stone
were ready for your power
now the sin is gone

(Excerpted from Tiffany Evans – Father Can You Hear Me Lyrics)

Think how much the Father loves us. He loves us so much that he lets us be called his children, as we truly are. But since the people of this world did not know who Christ is, they don’t know who we are. (1 John 3:1 CEV)
