Powerful rendition of this classic hymn “Nothing But the Blood of Jesus” by the Gaither Homecoming group concert! Nothing But The Blood of Jesus is a traditional American hymn about the blood atonement and propitiation for sin by the death of Jesus as explained in Hebrews 9. The song was composed by Robert Lowry, a hymn writer who was a Baptist minister and professor at Bucknell University.

“The Gaither Vocal Band is an American southern gospel vocal group, named after its founder and leader Bill Gaither. Founded in the early ’80s, Gaither Vocal Band is one of America’s leading faith-based vocal groups. While Gaither remained the only original member of the ensemble, many well-regarded CCM/gospel singers have passed through the band’s ranks, including Russ Taff, Guy Penrod, Wes Hampton, Michael English, Mark Lowry, and David Phelps. Jesus said: “I desire compassion and not sacrifice.” One of the dangers the pharisees had was they lacked compassion because they were so righteous. One of the dangers we can face in pursuing righteousness is the lack compassion for sinners, backsliders, evil people, and even compromisers. We don’t have to compromise with them. Jesus sat among sinners. There was no sin in Him. He went there and He told them the truth. So we should act with a lot of compassion to a lot of people who are backsliders or who don’t agree with the truth and we don’t leave them in that condition. That can be our ministry. Jesus could go in their midst and save them. He said: “I did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”

Merle Haggard was born in Oildale, California, during the Great Depression. He was inducted into Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994. He was an inmate at San Quentin from 1958 to 1960 where Merle Haggard saw Johnny Cash play at the prison on January 1, 1959. It changed his life. Haggard was later granted a pardon by Ronald Reagan when the former actor was Governor of California.
