Christ Forgiveness: Are you Forgiven Forever?

Christ Forgiveness

christ forgiveness as far as the east is from the west

“As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

Psalm 103:12

“When a debt had to be settled,” says Dr. A. J. Gordon, “either by full payment or forgiveness, it was the usage for the creditor to take the cancelled bond and nail it over the door of him who had owed it, that all passers-by might see that it was paid. Oh, blessed story or our remission! There is the cross, the door of grace, behind which a bankrupt world lies in hopeless debt to the law. See Jesus, our bondsman and brother, coming forth with the long list of our indebtedness in His hand. He lifts it up where God and angels and men may see it, and then, as the nail goes through His hand, it goes through the bond of our transgressions, to cancel it for ever, blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us. He took it out of the way, nailing it to the cross.”

This is the wonderful act of remission that is portrayed for us with such vividness in the cup of the Lord’s Supper. The nail that went through those bonds and fastened them there on the cross went also through the body of the Lord Jesus. Blood flowed at the remitting or our sins – the blood of the Son of God. The cup that is so sweet to us was emptied of terrible bitterness by the Lord Himself, then filled with heaven’s choicest blessings and brought to us. While we rejoice at the remission, let us not forget what it cost our Redeemer; nor let us forget the wonderful grace that puts all our sins away “as far as the east is from the west.”

Lessons from My Father: The Wisdom Billy Graham Shared With His Son

This is a transcript of an interview of Franklin Graham by Amy Levin-Epstein of Best Life Magazine. As a father myself, I can help but to look up to this man. He is worthy of emulation. His God given wisdom touches lives not only his son, Franklin Graham, but to ordinary men like myself. Read and be blessed.

My father became very close with the Nixons. He was fairly close with John F. Kennedy. After the Watergate era, however, he said, “I’m not going to say anything to a politician again unless it’s of a spiritual nature. I’m not going to talk with them about political issues, about international issues. I’m just going to keep my mouth shut and speak to them about things that affect their hearts.” I’ve watched him my whole life. He is my example. My father doesn’t keep a record of wrongs. If someone hurts him or disappoints him, my father just forgives the person and moves on. I think that’s what love is all about.

There’s no book to teach you. My father told me you learn how to preach by preaching. The only way you’re going to learn it is to go out there and do it and learn from your mistakes. And he’s right.

I saw that he was wary of politicians. They thought, If we get close to Billy Graham, that will influence votes. My father tries to use his position in a spiritual context.

He taught me that there is a devil in this world. There are spiritual powers at work against God. Why do we have bars on the windows? Why do we have to have police forces? Why do we have a judicial system? It’s because of the evil in this world. Everything he taught, he taught us through the Scripture.

I never saw my parents fight. Never really saw them argue. My mother was a soul mate to him. They did everything together. My father treated my mother with the utmost respect. He honored her. I have a friend–we’re about the same age–who loses his temper and yells at his wife, and he cusses at her from time to time, and guess what? His children do exactly the same thing.

My father is careful with women. He would not even ride in the same car with a woman other than my mother. I remember in Little Rock, Hillary Clinton, when she was the wife of Governor Clinton, wanted to meet my father for lunch. She wanted to have a private conversation. Daddy said, “I’d be glad to meet you, but we’ll meet in a public place.” My father told me, “I’m going to be above reproach and not allow myself ever to be accused of something that wasn’t morally right.”

He was gone for a long time when I was young. One time, he was gone for about six months. My father started his ministry right after World War II, when men had been gone for four or five years to defend the freedom of this nation. He felt, Should I do less for the sake of the cross? He later told me, “Son, if I had to do this over again, I wouldn’t have been gone that long.” When I’m through with my work, I go back home.

Life is a circle. When you are small, your relationship with your parents is one thing, and then you get to be an adult and they start treating you like an adult. And then when you are older, the roles reverse. Instead of the parents providing for the children, now we as children are helping to provide for our parents.

wisdom from Billy Graham

God did not give us religion. Religion is man’s attempt to reach a holy God.

He knows how to stay on message. All these years, he has been faithful to what he feels God called him to do, and that is to preach this wonderful good news, this Gospel, that Jesus Christ died for our sins, that He rose again, and if we would confess our sins to God and ask for His forgiveness and turn from those sins and invite Christ by faith into our hearts and into our lives, that God would forgive us.

The Reverend Franklin Graham, 56, runs the organization his father founded. The fourth of five children born to evangelist Billy Graham and his wife, Ruth Bell Graham, Franklin has been a Christian evangelist and missionary from the age of 23. Since 2000, he has served as CEO, and since 2002 as president, of Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. His father, one of most celebrated and well-loved preachers in American history, has counseled U.S. presidents from Harry Truman to George W. Bush.

All About Faith Series: Part 3 You Will Be Established

Believe in the Lord your God

2 Chronicles 20:20-30

New King James Version (NKJV)

20 So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.” 21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying:

“Praise the Lord,
For His mercy endures forever.”

22 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. 23 For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.

24 So when Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; and there were their dead bodies, fallen on the earth. No one had escaped.

25 When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away their spoil, they found among them an abundance of valuables on the dead bodies, and precious jewelry, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away; and they were three days gathering the spoil because there was so much. 26 And on the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Berachah, for there they blessed the Lord; therefore the name of that place was called The Valley of Berachah until this day. 27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat in front of them, to go back to Jerusalem with joy, for the Lord had made them rejoice over their enemies. 28 So they came to Jerusalem, with stringed instruments and harps and trumpets, to the house of the Lord. 29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries when they heard that the Lord had fought against the enemies of Israel. 30 Then the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for his God gave him rest all around.

What a revelation. God has promised this:  Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.” This I consider as one of the success formula in our modern times. Praise the Lord, His mercy endures forever.

Is there anything hard for God to do? In the accounts above, God did the extraordinary. He caused the enemies to fight with each other while Jehoshaphat’s army while they were busy praising the Lord! The power of praise at work.  What seemed to be a huge problem for Jehosaphat’s tribe altogether disappeared as they focused themselves on praising God. This tells us that no matter what are circumstances are;  no matter how big our problems is; or no matter how complicated were are into, we should not forget to praise our Lord. Let us turn our eyes on God for He is fighting our battles.

All About Faith Series: Part 2 The Persistent Faith of Hannah

broken and contrite spirit1 Samuel 1:7-20 New King James Version (NKJV)

7 So it was, year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, that she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat.

8 Then Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”

9 So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle[a] of the Lord. 10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish. 11 Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”

12 And it happened, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli watched her mouth. 13 Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk. 14 So Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!”

15 But Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord. 16 “Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman,[b] for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now.”

17 Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him.”

18 And she said, “Let your maidservant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.

19 Then they rose early in the morning and worshiped before the Lord, and returned and came to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her. 20 So it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called his name Samuel,[c] saying, “Because I have asked for him from the Lord.”

How do we press on to God?  Hannah poured out her soul before God. She petitioned God consistently and persistently and got the attention of God. Out of her brokenness, she cried out to God. A Sacrifice that was pleasing before the eyes of the Lord.

Can we have faith like Hannah? Of course we can. Here’s the clue. In Psalms 51:17 it says : “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.”  The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18.

The next time we pray, let us P.U.S.H.. (Pray Until Something Happens).

New York Knicks Basketball Star Jeremy Lin Talks About His Miracles from God

Jeremy Lin is undoubtedly one of the hottest rising stars of the NBA. He plays for the New York Knicks. His story is similar to American National Football League Superstar Tim Tebow as they both speak openly about their Christian faith in a well publicized television or social media coverage. Despite his rising popularity, Jeremy Lin maintains his humility.

Wikipedia reports that Jeremy Lin  is actually an evangelical Christian who was a leader in Harvard’s Asian American Christian Fellowship during his time there.  Lin would one day like to be a pastor who can head up non-profit organizations, either home or abroad. He has also talked of working in inner-city communities to help with underprivileged children.

Jeremy Lin New York KnicksGod’s fingerprint are all over the place where there’s been a lot of things that had to happen that I just couldn’t control. You can try to call it coincide but at the end of the day, there are 20 or 30 things. When you combine a lot had to happen at the right time in order for me to be here. That’s why I call it a miracle.Jeremy Lin Quote
