The Gaither Vocal Band was founded in the early ’80s by renowned Christian music leader Bill Gaither. GVB became one of America’s leading southern gospel vocal groups. What an incredible atmosphere of gallant soldiers singing a Christian song in unison! It is very rare that these men gather in such number only to sing, as part of their assembly, a song that is not so popular in the secular world. Salute to the leaders of these soldiers for this initiative. Salute to these soldiers who incredibly put aside opposition and participate to this event that cannot be ignored in the eyes of both believers and non-believers. Hallelujah!

About Alabama

Alabama was the group that made country bands popular again. Emerging in the late ’70s, the band had roots in both country and rock. The band formed in Fort Payne, Alabama, in 1969. The band was founded by Randy Owen (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and his cousin Teddy Gentry (bass, backing vocals). They were soon joined by another cousin, Jeff Cook (lead guitar, fiddle, and keyboards). Alabama’s biggest success came in the 1980s, where the band had over 27 number one hits, seven multi-platinum albums and received numerous awards. The band has over 41 number one country records on the Billboard charts to their credit and have sold over 75 million records, making them the most successful band in country music history. This beautiful song was written by Dottie Rambo. According to a St. Augustine newspaper article about the song, Dottie had just gone through a difficult time with a friend who had disappointed her. She decided to walk along the beach to clear her mind. “All of a sudden I thought, ‘Lord, this storm is so much like my life, and yet, in the midst of the storms of life, you have been a shelter to me. When I can’t take the storm, I run to you for that shelter and, suddenly, I feel secure.’” While pondering these thoughts she began to write Sheltered in the Arms of God.
