About David Phelps

David Phelps is a singer, songwriter, and keyboardist known in the Christian music sphere as a popular solo artist and as a tenor for the Gaither Vocal Band (1998-2005, 2009-2017) graduate from Baylor University, David Phelps is credited among today’s most spectacular voices. David’s seemingly has endless vocal range extending to more than three octaves. He has an amazing gift for communicating a song. He has performed spectacularly and has brought the house down in the world’s most prestigious venues. As a solo artist, he received 2009 Dove Award nominations for Male Vocalist of the Year and Long Form Video for the Christmas DVD, O Holy Night to add to his many awards and honors.

Enjoy this popular Christmas carol that was written by Phillips Brooks (1835–1893), an Episcopal priest, then rector of Church of the Holy Trinity, Philadelphia, and later of Trinity Church, Boston. He was inspired by visiting the village of Bethlehem in the Sanjak of Jerusalem in 1865. Three years later, he wrote the poem for his church, and his organist Lewis Redner (1831–1908) added the music. A blessed Christmas season to everyone! Jesus, the reason for this time of rejoicing!

Originally based on a French-language poem by poet Placide Cappeau, written in 1843 and set to music in 1847.
