The Message of The Cross Fireproof Movie

Fireproof [Blu-ray]

Have you watched Fireproof? Kirk Cameron played the role of Captain Caleb Holt, a firefighter, who lives by the firefighter’s adage: “Never leave your partner.” Yet he has another battle to fight – to rescue his marriage with Catherine.Like any other men, Caleb needs the guidance of his idol, John Holt, his dad. Full of wisdom, John Holt challenges him to commit to a 40-day experiment: “The Love Dare.”I really love most part of the scenes but what struck me most is that scene where Caleb engages his Dad to a man to man conversation. It’s an amazing picture and probably the best part of the movie! I really appreciate the value of having a father and son private conversations. Honestly, I didn’t have much of it with my father. That’s why I am making most of my time to talk with my 5 year old son. Fathers are heroes to every son and are very influential in shaping their son’s future. It would be my most wonderful experience if I were to play the role of John Holt. But I have no acting ability so I’d rather appreciate and reflect on the conversations between Caleb and his dad. Yep, I researched the transcript for better understanding. You can watch the video at the end.

Caleb Holt: Yeah, well, Catherine’s not buying any of it.

John Holt: And why do you think that is?
Caleb Holt: She doesn’t love me. She doesn’t even like me. Dad, she just about ignored everything I’ve done.
John Holt: Are you reading everything on each page?
Caleb Holt: You mean the Bible verses at the bottom. I’m not, dad. I told you, that is not what I need.
John Holt: Then what do you need?
Caleb Holt: I need Catherine to wake up to the fact that we’re about to get an ugly divorce. And I’m trying to prevent that. But I cannot do it by myself.
John Holt: That may be true. But I think you need more than that.
Caleb Holt: Dad, if you’re gonna tell me I need Jesus, please don’t. I don’t need a crutch to get through life.
John Holt: Son, Jesus is much more than a crutch. He’s become the most significant part of our lives.
Caleb Holt: Dad, why do you keep saying that? The most significant part… How is that?
John Holt: When I realized who I was, and who He was, I realized my need for Him. I needed His forgiveness and salvation.
Caleb Holt: See, I don’t understand. Why do I need His salvation? What? Am I gonna be thrown into hell? For what? ‘Cause I got divorced?
John Holt: No. Because you violated His standards.
Caleb Holt: What? ‘Thou shall not kill’? Dad, I help people. I am a good person.
John Holt: According to you. But God doesn’t judge by your standards. He uses His.
Caleb Holt: And what are His?
John Holt: Well, truth, love…
Caleb Holt: Okay. I’m honest.
John Holt: Faithfulness…
Caleb Holt: I care about people. I am those things.
John Holt: Sometimes. But have you loved God? The one who gave you life? His standards are so high, He considers hatred to be murder, and lust to be adultery.
Caleb Holt: Dad, what about all the good I’ve done?
John Holt: Son, saving someone from a fire doesn’t make you right with God. You’ve broken His commandments. And one day, you’ll answer to Him for that.
John Holt: Caleb, if I had to ask you why you’re so frustrated with Catherine, wha
t would you say?
Caleb Holt: She’s stubborn. She makes everything difficult for me. She’s ungrateful. She’s constantly griping about something.
John Holt: Has she thanked you for anything you’ve done in the last 20 days?
Caleb Holt: No! And you’d think after I washed the car, changed the oil, do the dishes, washed the house, that she would try to show me a little bit of gratitude, but she doesn’t. In fact, when I come home, she makes me feel like I’m an enemy! I’m not even welcome in my own home, dad! That is what really ticks me off! Dad, for the last three weeks I have bent over backwards for her! I have tried to demonstrate that I still care about this relationship. I bought her flowers, which she threw away. I have taken her insults and her sarcasm, but last night was it. I made dinner for her. I did everything I could to demonstrate that I care about her, to show value for her, and she spat in my face! She does not deserve this, dad! I am not doing it anymore! How am I supposed to show love to somebody over and over and over, who constantly rejects me?
John Holt: [John Holt strokes the wooden cross, and turns to Caleb] That’s a good question.
Caleb Holt: Dad, that is not what I’m doing.
John Holt: Is it?
Caleb Holt: No. Dad, that is not what this is about.
John Holt: Son, you just asked me: how can someone show love over and over again when they’re constantly rejected? Caleb, the answer is: you can’t love her, because you can’t give her what you don’t have. I couldn’t truly love your mother until I understood what love truly was. It’s not because I get some reward out of it. I’ve now made a decision to love your mother whether she deserves it or not. Son, God loves you, even though you don’t deserve it. Even though you’ve rejected Him. Spat in His face. God sent Jesus to die on the cross for your sin, because He loves you. The cross was offensive to me, until I came to it. But when I did, Jesus Christ changed my life. That’s when I truly began to love your mom. Son, I can’t settle this for you. This is between you and the Lord. But I love you too much not to tell you the truth. Can’t you see that you need Him? Can’t you see that you need His forgiveness?
Caleb Holt: Yes.
John Holt: Will you trust Him with your life?
[Caleb nods; yes]

John Waller "While I’m Waiting" (Fireproof Soundtrack)

Waiting on God

I will move ahead, bold and confident
Taking every step in obedience
While I’m waiting, I will serve You
While I’m waiting, I will worship
While I’m waiting, I will not faint
I’ll be running the race; Even while I wait (John Waller, “While I’m Waiting” Lyrics)

THREE BIBLE VERSES ABOUT WAITING ON GOD

Waiting for God Gives Us Strength

“But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings as eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

Waiting for God Means Blessings

“Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for Him” (Isaiah 30:18).

Waiting for God Gives Us Hope

Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD,They shall inherit the earth. (Psalm 37:7;Psalm 37:9)

Lost Roman Catholic to Saved by Grace – Jacquelyn’s Testimony

How does one attain Salvation in Roman Catholicism? Matt Slick of CARM wrote an exhaustive articles of what Roman Catholics believe:
“Salvation, in Roman Catholicism, is a process with many steps: Actual Grace, Faith, Good Works, Baptism, Participation in the Sacraments, Penance, Indulgences, and Keeping the Commandments. Basically, salvation is attained through baptism and good works. It is maintained by good works and participation in the sacraments. If lost, it is regained through the sacrament of Penance which only a Roman Catholic priest can administer. Add to this purgatorial cleansing after a person dies, and you can see that salvation is an arduous process.

In Catholicism, a person can gain salvation and lose it many times depending on the number of sins committed, their severity, and how much of the sacraments they participate in–in order to regain grace which enables them to do good works by which they are justified. Furthermore, justifying grace is infused into the Catholic upon baptism and via the sacraments. This grace can be gradually lost through venial sins or forfeited all together with mortal sins.”

If you are truly a Christian who believes that the Bible is the Word of God, do you think these Roman Catholic practices are biblical and does not contradict the Bible?

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,” (Rom. 5:1)
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Eph 2:8-9)
“But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace,”(Rom. 11:6)
“For what does the Scripture say? “ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS,”(Rom. 4:3)

Spiritual Authorities in High Places ( The Three Heavens )

This is a very interesting teaching about heavens as mentioned in the Bible. You must watch it to the end. It has to do when we pray and what happens in the heavenlies.

Three heavens derek prince

The Three Heavens

“Then the first heaven I would suggest could be the visible heaven that we see the Sun the moon and the stars. So in some way that there remains a second heaven which has never called the second heaven which is somewhere between the visible heaven and the heaven don’t speak personally. I believe that’s where Satan’s Kingdom is located. I have and let me just offer you this theory. Maybe you think I’m very naive but Ruth and I travel a lot by jet airplanes and recently on the way from New Zealand to Singapore, we were flying at an altitude of 39,000 feet which is a long long way up when I get that high. I sometimes have the feeling I am above Satan’s Kingdom it’s like it’s easy to pray you don’t have to fight your way through. Proposition now this this may becompletely my subjective impression but somewhere or other between God and us is a hostile Kingdom which opposes us and seeks to hinder our prayers and that’s why sometimes we have to pray through understand. It’s not that we’re praying out of the will of God. it’s not that God is unwilling to hear but we have to penetrate a hostile Kingdom in the heavenlies to reach God. Now rather than speculate, I want to give you a passage from the book of Daniel which very clearly reveals that this is so. I’m not going to read the whole chapter but if you’re interested you would do well to read the chapter for yourself later. Daniel chapter 10 this chapter relateshow Daniel set-aside appeared of three weeks for special prayer and he did what we’ve come to call it Daniel fast. He didn’t give up all food but he only ate the plainest and simplest food. And he drank no wine and he ain’t no meat. And he was mourning before God on behalf of his people Israel who were captives of a Gentile Empire. And at the end of three weeks, a very glorious angel came to him with the answer to his friend which was a revelation from God of what would be the future of his people which but the angel said to him. “The first day you began to pray your prayer was heard and I was sent with the answer to your prayer but he said it took me three weeks to get through because somewhere between the throne of God and Daniel on earth I was opposed by satanic angels and I had to force my way through those angels.” So it’s very clear that at the time of Daniel, somewhere between God’s throne and earth there was this satanic Kingdom I believe it’s still there it was still there.” – Derek Prince

Do You Know My King?

This is a great message taken from a famous sermon by Dr. Shadrach Meshach (S.M.) Lockridge.
The Bible says my King is the King of the Jews. He’s the King of Israel. He’s the King of righteousness. He’s the King of the ages. He’s the King of Heaven. He’s the King of glory. He’s the King of kings, and He’s the Lord of lords. That’s my King. I wonder…Do you know Him?
My King is a sovereign King. No means of measure can define his limitless love. He’s enduringly strong. He’s entirely sincere. He’s eternally steadfast. He’s immortally graceful. He’s imperially powerful. He’s impartially merciful. Do you know Him?

He’s the greatest phenomenon that has ever crossed the horizon of this world. He’s God’s Son. He’s the sinner’s Savior. He’s the peak of civilization. He’s unparalleled. He’s unprecedented. He is the loftiest idea in literature. He’s the highest personality in philosophy. He’s the fundamental doctrine of true theology. He’s the only one qualified to be an all-sufficient Savior. I wonder if you know Him today.

He supplies strength for the weak. He’s available for the tempted and the tried. He sympathizes and He saves. He strengthens and sustains. He guards and He guides. He heals the sick. He cleanses the lepers. He forgives sinners. He discharges debtors. He delivers the captives. He defends the feeble. He blesses the young. He serves the unfortunate. He regards the aged. He rewards the diligent, and He beautifies the meager. I wonder if you know Him.

He’s the key to knowledge. He’s the wellspring of wisdom. He’s the doorway of deliverance. He’s the pathway of peace. He’s the roadway of righteousness. He’s the highway of holiness. He’s the gateway of glory. Do you know Him?

Well, His light is matchless. His goodness is limitless. His mercy is everlasting. His love never changes. His word is enough. His grace is sufficient. His reign is righteous, and His yoke is easy and His burden is light. I wish I could describe Him to you. Yes, He’s indescribable. He’s incomprehensible. He’s invincible. He’s irresistible. You can’t get Him out of your mind. You can’t get Him off of your head. You can’t outlive Him, and you can’t live without Him.

Well, the Pharisees couldn’t stand Him but they found out they couldn’t stop Him. Pilate couldn’t find any fault in Him. Herod couldn’t kill Him. Death couldn’t handle Him, and the grave couldn’t hold Him. I wonder if you know Him.
