Do You Press On or Still Living in the Past?

Do you press on or are you still living in the past? There were situations in our past that painted hurt, disappointments, and regrets. These were too heavy and even paralyzes us to continue living that way we ought to. These have changed the way we perceive circumstances, make decisions, and mastering our attitudes. Sometimes we feel that we are carrying the weight of the world. Nothing is seems right. Mind you, even christians are not immune to these. I’ve seen christian leaders who just can’t go on with their ministries because of hurt and disappointments. The Good News is, there is a way out. Here’s the Apostle Paul in Philippians 3:12-15 giving us the motivation.

Philippians 3 verse 14

In Philippians 3: 12-15 we read:
Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.

We are on a Race

We are to attain or obtain a perfect knowledge of Christ. The day we decided to trust and follow Jesus, we are at the starting point of our race. As participants to this race, our focus is to finish the race and get hold of the prize that is set before us. The good thing is, every participant of the race has a reward at the end of the race. No losers. No competition. Just stay on the race. The rules of race are laid down in God’s word.

We “press on”  means it’s a continous and consistent process. God has laid hold His plans for each of us. He determined our steps. It is now for us to press on, stay on the race, and get hold of what He has in store for us. God will reveal it to us one by one along the way.

Forgeting Those Things Which Are Behind

Let not our past disappointments, hurt, or pain dictates our future. To Press on is leaving those burdens or excess baggage away. These will not help us in the race at all. Carrying these might strained us, paralyze us, or dishabilitate  us and we are unable to finish the race.

Fight the Good Fight of Faith

To stay in the race, we must Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. (1 Timothy 6:12).  Christian life is not easy. We have a lot of battles. Temptations, power, greed, lust, among others. We must therefore equip ourselves with the tools we need to deal with various crossroads along the course of our race. Jesus had laid down the foundation, set the examples, and provided the roadmaps how to finish our race.

Christian Humor: A $20 Dollar Bill and A $1 Dollar Bill

funny photo dollar

There was this $20 dollar bill and a $1 dollar bill on the conveyor belt at the downtown Federal Reserve Building. As they were laying there side by side the $1 dollar bill said to the $20 dollar bill, “Hey mannnnnn, where have you been. I haven’t seen you in a long time?”

The $20 dollar bill replied, “Man I have been having a ball!! I’ve been traveling to distant countries, going to the finest restaurants, to the biggest and best casinos, numerous boutiques, the mall uptown, the mall downtown, the mall across town and even a mall that I just newly built. In fact, just this week I’ve been to Europe, a professional NBA game, Rodeo Drive, the all day retreat spa, the top-notch hair salon and the new casino!! I have done it all!!!”

After describing his great travels, the $20 dollar bill asked the $1dollar bill, “What about you? Where have you been?”

The $1 dollar replied, “Well, I’ve been to the Baptist church, the Methodist church, the Presbyterian church, the Episcopalian church the Church of God in Christ, the Catholic church, the Mormon church, the church of the Latter Day Saints , the A.M.E. church, the Disciple of Christ church, the… “WAIT A MINUTE! WAIT A M I N U T E !!”, shouted the $20 dollar bill to the $1 dollar bill. “What’s a church??”

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Christian Wallpaper

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.  If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer.  And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort (2 Cor 1:3-7).

What Does Faith Actually Do?

faith and hope

The Faith: What Christians Believe, Why They Believe It, and Why It MattersI subscribe to Colin Smith‘s weekly Lifekeys devotionals.  I just thought of sharing this one because I believe that we all need to sharpen our thoughts on the subject of Faith. One of favourite verses is Hebrews 11:6 that says “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” This verse has really provided me a clear understanding that we can’t take away Faith when we talk about our relationship with God. Colin Smith, in this article explains Faith.

“For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.” – Romans 3:28

Evangelicals have always stressed the wonderful truth that we are justified by faith. We have rightly placed great emphasis on justification by faith and not by works. But we have not always had a good grasp on what faith actually is.

Hebrews 11 gives us a long list of the heroes of faith, men and women who are models or examples to us of what authentic faith looks like. Study this chapter and you will see that faith is always more than bare belief. Faith is active. It does things…

Faith Understands
“By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command.” Hebrews 11:3

The Psalmist says, “I have more insight than all my teachers for I meditate on your statutes” (Psalm 119:99). The Holy Spirit gives wisdom that cannot be gained by the intellect alone. It is possible to have the most brilliant mind, and yet to live like a fool.

Faith Offers
“By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did.” (11:4)
Faith will lead you to great sacrifices-denying yourself and costly commitment.

Faith Builds
“By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family.” (11:7)
Faith initiates great projects that will be the means of advancing God’s redeeming purpose in the world.

Faith Obeys
“By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” (11:8)
Faith will lead you to embark on great ventures into the unknown.

Faith Longs
“They were longing for a better country–a heavenly one.” (11:16)
Faith is a forward-looking grace. It will keep you fixed on heaven.

Faith Blesses
“By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future.” (11:20)
What a blessing to have a father who is a man of faith, a mother who is a woman of faith. Faith leaves a legacy, bringing blessing to your children and all God places around you.

Faith Worships
“By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.” (11:21)
Faith will lead you to worship. Here is this old man at the end of life. He is dying, but he looks up to God and he worships.

Why does faith do all these things?

Faith is like a living tree bursting with fruit! Where does all this life and energy come from? Why does faith understand, offer, build, obey, long, bless and worship? Faith unites us to Jesus Christ. Faith is the bond by which we become His, and faith is the way in which Christ, and all that is His, becomes ours.
