Why I Hate Religion But Love JesusWhy I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus is a poem written to highlight the difference between Jesus and false religion by Jefferson Bethke. He emphasized that in the scriptures, Jesus received the most opposition from the most religious people of his day and at it’s core Jesus’ gospel and the Good News of the Cross is in pure opposition to self-righteousness/self-justification. Religion is man centered, Jesus is God-centered.

I can well relate to this one as I come from a Roman Catholic background. In those day, I was a “saint” for an hour while attending a mass but afterwards I was entirely different. I still go back to my vices of drunkenness, foul languages, lying tongues – a life full of hypocrisy. The Scripture that standouts for me is Galatians 5:1 and I quote: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. ”  Praise the Lord that Jesus set me free from the bondage of religion.
